The Center for Distance Education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks
(UAF) is offering a fall semester online course entitled "Land,
Environment, and People in the North." The fall semester begins
Thursday, 1 September 2011. The last day for registration is Friday, 9
September 2011.
The course will provide students with a greater understanding of the
complexity of important concepts and issues related to the land and
environment of the North. The course deals with the impacts of natural
and physical change on the peoples and conditions of the Circumpolar
North. The course concentrates on three major fields of scientific
study: climate change, natural resources, and health and environment.
Emphasis is given to the challenges of sustainability in the North, and
to the need for proper long-term stewardship.
The course is suitable not only for UAF and UARCTIC students, for also
for anyone interested in the topic. The course could potentially fill
electives in anthropology, biochemistry, biology, cross-cultural
