  1. Please Report IPY Publications
    IPY Publications Database

Anyone who worked on an International Polar Year (IPY) 2007-2008 project
is requested to report the project's publications to the IPY
Publications Database (IPYPD) at: http://www.nisc.com/ipy. The IPYPD
currently describes 4,600 publications and provides links to PDF files
of most of them.

The IPY data policy and the IPY scholarly publications policy require
that IPY publications be reported to the IPYPD. Reported publications
are listed in the IPYPD and, depending on their subject and geographic
scope, in the Bibliography on Cold Regions Science and Technology, the
Antarctic Bibliography, the Scott Polar Research Institute databases,
and the Arctic Science and Technology Information System (ASTIS)
databases.

The IPYPD covers most types of peer-reviewed and gray literature, on all
types of media. In addition to research publications, the database
includes education, outreach, and communication publications.

To report publications about the Antarctic or physical sciences, email a
list of references to: coldregions [at] agiweb.org.

To report publications about the biological and social sciences, email a
list of references to: librarian [at] spri.cam.ac.uk.

To report publications about northern Canada, email a list of references
to: astis [at] ucalgary.ca.

For further information, or to search the database, please go to:
http://www.nisc.com/ipy.

  1. Online Database Available
Arctic Science and Technology Information System

Canada's northern database, the Arctic Science and Technology
Information System (ASTIS), now describes 73,000 publications and
research projects. The database is available at:
http://www.aina.ucalgary.ca/astis.

ASTIS includes all subjects and covers the Yukon, the Northwest
Territories, Nunavut, the northern parts of seven provinces, and
Canada's arctic waters. The publications cited in the database include
both peer-reviewed and grey literature. The 16,000 research project
descriptions in ASTIS cover the period from 1974 to the present and are
based on information supplied by the organizations that license all
field research in the three northern territories.

There are now 17,500 ASTIS records that link to full-text PDF files of
publications. In order to focus resources on important aspects of
northern Canada, fourteen subsets of the main ASTIS database are
available as separate databases from their own websites.

For further information, or to search the database, please go to:
http://www.aina.ucalgary.ca/astis.

  1. Online Database Available
    Circumpolar Health Bibliographic Database

The Circumpolar Health Bibliographic Database (CHBD) describes 6,000
publications about all aspects of human health in the circumpolar
region. The database is a project of the Canadian Institutes of Health
Research (CIHR) Team in Circumpolar Health Research, and is available
at: http://www.aina.ucalgary.ca/chbd.

The CHBD includes all types of publications, both peer-reviewed and grey
literature. It can be searched using: words from titles or abstracts,
names of diseases or conditions, types of people, geographic regions,
authors, publication years, and special groups of publications. Search
results can be sorted by year or by first author.

The records in the CHBD contain citations, abstracts, subject and
geographic indexing terms, library codes, and links to 2,900 online
publications. As part of the CHBD project, server space is available to
make PDF files of publications available online, or to provide an
additional online location for publications that are already available
online from their publishers.

For further information, or to search the database, please go to:
http://www.aina.ucalgary.ca/chbd.

  1. New Website Available
Arctic Research Cruise Planning and Collaboration
    Alaska Ocean Observing System

The Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS) has launched a new website that
is designed to collect and display arctic research cruise plans, and to
support collaboration between researchers prior to the field season.

This site includes two functionalities:

- A simple web-based form for researchers to input information about
their cruise plans, including dates, geographic area, and jpg images
of proposed tracks; and
- A blog-like list of already-submitted cruise plans that can be
browsed to view information about planned research cruises. Specific
information about each vessel will be available as well as the
ability to post or view comments about the vessels. Information
entered on the web-based form will be immediately displayed on the
web page.

To submit arctic research cruise plans for this field season, please
input information about your vessel on the following website:
http://dev.aoos.org/arctic-cruise-survey/.

  1. New Education Website Available
    IDPO Climate Expeditions
    Ice Drilling Program Office

The Ice Drilling Program Office (IDPO) announces the launch of its new
education-focused website, entitled IDPO Climate Expeditions (ICE). The
site offers ice core-related lesson plans and resources for middle and
high school classrooms; career profiles and links to universities with
glaciology research centers for students; and informational articles,
reliable resources, and multi-media for the public. To access this
website, please go to: http://www.climate-expeditions.org.

ICE offers scientists associated with IDPO opportunities to leverage
their education and outreach efforts. IDPO requests that scientists
consider linking their education pages to the ICE homepage, submitting
articles published for general audiences that represent their research,
being featured in a career profile, and/or sharing video clips, photos,
or other resources to gain a wider audience through national IDPO
outreach efforts.
