The Alaska Center for Climate Assessment and Policy (ACCAP) will host a
webinar entitled "Interagency Science in the Arctic" on Tuesday, 6 March
2012 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. AKST. The webinar will be presented by
Erica Key from the National Science Foundation.
Change in the Arctic has arrived in many forms, whether environmental,
social, technological, economic, or a combination of these. Measuring
and observing these changes in partnerships with the affected
communities is important to improving our understanding of the Arctic as
a whole, developing informed policies, and providing useful solutions
for the challenges and opportunities that change can present. The Arctic
Observing Network (AON) is one contribution to this effort to document
change and distribute information broadly to the scientific community
and public at large. A successful network draws on all relevant
information sources, including efforts spearheaded within communities,
other agencies, and other nations active in the Arctic. This webinar is
intended to discuss opportunities to engage with the Arctic Observing
Network but also to hear from the community about developing efforts and
needs for an AON.
Preregistration is strongly encouraged. To register, please fill out the
form available at: http://www.accap.uaf.edu/teleconference.htm#register,
or contact Brook Gamble (accap [at] uaf.edu or 907-474-7812). Satellite sites
are available for local community members, agencies and nonprofits,
resource managers, and scientists to participate in the webinar. This
month's satellite sites are to be decided; please contact ACCAP for room
details or to notify them if your organization would like to host a
satellite viewing site. Erica Key will be presenting remotely, however,
Fairbanks viewers are still welcome to attend the presentation at the
ACCAP office, which is located at 3352 College Road on the second floor
of the Denali Building. If you intend to attend in person, please
contact ACCAP beforehand.
