Organizers of session HS26, entitled "Remote Sensing of Snow Cover,"
announce a call for abstracts. The session will be convened at the Asia
Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS) - American Geophysical Union (AGU)
Joint Assembly, scheduled for 13-17 August 2012 in Singapore.

This session is dedicated to the studies of snow cover, which plays a
significant role as a climate-forming factor and in hydrological
studies. Currently, advanced snow remote sensing algorithms provide
improved quality of information on snow parameters. The modern snow
remote sensing offers extensive datasets of observations on snow cover
state. The session invites the contributions from a wide range of snow
studies at different temporal and spatial scales on the basis of various
remote-sensing techniques. Works on snow observation, validation,
theoretical studies, and related process modeling are also welcomed.

    Responses of Arctic Marine Ecosystems to Climate Change
    26-29 March 2013
    Anchorage, Alaska

Alaska Sea Grant and other sponsors will hold a 3.5-day Wakefield
Fisheries Symposium, to advance understanding of present and future
responses of arctic marine ecosystems to climate change at all trophic
levels. The symposium will be held 26-29 March 2013 in Anchorage, Alaska
at the Hotel Captain Cook.

All keynotes and 20-minute contributed talks will be presented in
plenary sessions. A call for abstracts will be released soon for oral
and poster contributions. Organizers encourage contributions that focus
on collaborative approaches to understanding and managing living marine
resources in a changing Arctic and to managing human responses--locally,
regionally, and globally--to changing arctic marine ecosystems.

Session topics include:

- Observed and anticipated environmental changes in the Arctic;
- Lower trophic level productivity of arctic waters in a changing
climate;
- Marine fish resources of the Arctic in a changing climate;
- Observed and anticipated responses of arctic birds and marine
mammals to environmental changes in the Arctic;
- Effects of changing arctic marine ecosystems on humans; and
- Understanding and managing arctic marine ecosystems in a time of
change.

    Public Participation in Scientific Research
    4-5 August 2012
    Portland, Oregon

Organizers announce a conference entitled "Public Participation in
Scientific Research" (PPSR), which will be convened 4-5 August 2012 in
Portland, Oregon. It is being held in conjunction with the annual
meeting of the Ecological Society of America (ESA), which is scheduled
6-10 August 2012.

With the rapid growth and innovation of PPSR, there is a need for
sharing insights across projects and fields of study. This landmark
event will convene science researchers, project leaders, educators,
technology specialists, evaluators, and others from across many
disciplines (including astronomy, molecular biology, human and
environmental health, and ecology) to discuss advancing the field of
PPSR.

PPSR Conference attendees may be interested in staying in Portland to
attend the ESA conference as well. The ESA is a venue that has long been
supportive of citizen science and that welcomes insights from diverse
fields.

    24th Polar Libraries Colloquy
    11-14 June 2012
    Boulder, Colorado

Organizers of the 24th Polar Libraries Colloquy, which will be held
11-14 June 2012 in Boulder, Colorado, announce that registration and
abstract submission is now available.

The conference theme is "Cold Regions: Pivot Points, Focal Points."
Scientists, economists, and governments are focused on the evolving role
of polar regions in world affairs. Polar libraries are evolving as well.
The Colloquy will feature a number of interesting presentations and
panels, an experiment with an "unconference" session to address
practical problems in polar libraries, and a field trip to one of the
coldest labs in the world.
