Organizers announce that the Third International Symposium of Arctic
Research (ISAR3) will be held 15 January 2013 at the National Museum of
Emerging Science and Innovation (Miraikan) in Tokyo, Japan.

The general sessions of the ISAR3 will be similar to those from ISAR2
(http://www-arctic.nipr.ac.jp/isar2/toppage/isar2top.htm), and several
special sessions will be established to discuss immediate and important
issues. All colleagues, including scientific and technical researchers,
decision makers, and students are welcome.

Organizers announce that registration and abstract submission are now
available for the First International Conference on Urbanization in the
Arctic. It will be convened 28-30 August 2012 in Nuuk, Greenland.

The conference will provide an opportunity to discuss the immediate
past, the present situation, and the prospects for the near future of
urbanization in the Arctic. The conference will explore different
aspects of urbanization such as:

- The overarching framework of the urbanization process, such as
national and regional policies and arctic geopolitics.
- The specific drivers and enablers of the urbanization process,
such as demography (for instance change in sex ration, fertility,
and migration), megaprojects, industrialization, change of
occupation, and the role of education and innovation.
- The social, cultural and economic implications of the urbanization
process, such as differentiated processes of urbanization, centers
versus minor settlements, economic dependence versus independence
and company towns versus integration of new activities.

Registration for the conference will be done via email. To register,
please send your name, title, affiliation, postal and email addresses,
telephone number, and any special food preferences to Klaus Georg Hansen
(kgh [at] nordregio.se). If you intend to present a paper at the conference,
please include the title, author(s), a 300-word abstract, and
confirmation that the paper has not previous been published.
Registration emails must be received by by 30 June 2012, and all
registrants will be contacted during the first week of July 2012.

    Public Participation in Scientific Research
    4-5 August 2012

Organizers of the "Public Participation in Scientific Research" (PPSR)
conference announce that registration and abstract submission are now
available. The conference will be convened 4-5 August 2012 in Portland,
Oregon. It is being held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the
Ecological Society of America (ESA), which is scheduled 6-10 August
2012.

With the rapid growth and innovation of PPSR, there is a need for
sharing insights across projects and fields of study. This landmark
event will convene science researchers, project leaders, educators,
technology specialists, evaluators, and others from across many
disciplines (including astronomy, molecular biology, human and
environmental health, and ecology) to discuss advancing the field of
PPSR.

Poster abstracts will feature highly in the conference and will allow
extended informal discussions and active participation by authors and
coauthors. There will be three separate 1.5-hour poster sessions.
