The Institute of Arctic Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks
seeks a postdoctoral research scientist. The position will be based in
Fairbanks, Alaska.
The successful candidate will conduct modeling studies as part of
projects to assess carbon dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems in Alaska.
The studies will include the development, parameterization, testing,
analysis, and application of models that simulate the vegetation and
carbon dynamics of ecosystems in Alaska.
A PhD degree (already received or awaiting receipt with all requirements
fulfilled) is required, as is training in earth system science or
biogeochemistry is required. Research experience in modeling vegetation
dynamics or biogeochemistry is also required, and skills in data
analysis and computer programming are preferred.

- WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research seeks PhD Student
Climate Change Effects on High-Alpine Flora
Davos, Switzerland
The WSL Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research seeks a PhD student to
work with the 'Mountain Ecosystems' research team. The position will be
based in Davos, Switzerland, is fully funded for the duration of the PhD
(3 years), and will start in spring 2013.
The successful candidate will explore patterns and mechanisms of local
plant colonization and extinctions on alpine summits. The position will
design and conduct vegetation surveys and experiments on mountain
summits, analyze long-term changes in high-alpine flora in relation to
local climate change in different mountain regions of Europe, and
publish results in international peer-reviewed journals.
Applicants must have a Master's degree in biology, ecology, or botany;
experience in experimental fieldwork and statistical analyses; and
fluency in English. Fieldwork is weather dependent and physically
demanding. Previous plant identification and mountaineering experience
are desirable, and the willingness to rapidly learn the alpine flora an
absolute must.

The Department of Geology at the University at Buffalo seeks seeks a
motivated student for a PhD position. The position will be based in
Buffalo, New York.
The successful candidates will be working on an NSF-funded project that
involves field and lab research to investigate the mountain glacier and
ice sheet history of Greenland during the Holocene. Methods employed are
radiocarbon dating, Be exposure dating, and lake sediment analysis.

Memorial University's Faculty of Arts and Labrador Institute invite
applications for a tenure-track faculty position. The position will be
made at the rank of Assistant Professor, and be based in Goose Bay,
Labrador, Canada.
The successful candidate will have a deep interest in the history,
culture, and people of Labrador, and will bring a commitment to research
and community engagement to the position. Candidates with expertise in
linguistics, archaeology, anthropology, sociology, or folklore are
encouraged to apply. All positions normally require a completed doctoral
degree in the appropriate discipline. A completed earned doctorate (or
recognized terminal qualification in the discipline) is required for the
appointee to receive the rank of Assistant Professor and to be in a
tenure-track position.
