The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) announces a call for
nominations for the Board of Directors. ARCUS board members are elected
for three-year terms at elections held each spring.
The role of the board member is to identify, evaluate, and promote new
initiatives that significantly advance the scientific understanding of
the Arctic. The primary qualification is an interest in and commitment
to arctic research and education and a willingness to commit time and
effort to developing and promoting ARCUS' programs. Board member
responsibilities include:
- Attending bimonthly (six per year) board teleconferences, and at
least one in-person meeting;
- Actively working to develop broader program, membership, and
funding support for ARCUS activities;
- Promoting the interests of ARCUS, its member institutions, and the
larger arctic research community;
- Identifying opportunities for new initiatives and for
collaboration in the arctic community in research, dissemination,
and education; and
- Advocating for funding to support community initiatives.
Nominations should include the person's name, affiliation, contact
information, area of expertise, and a brief statement on why the person
would be an asset to the Board of Directors. If a candidate has any
secondary affiliation with an ARCUS member institution
(http://www.arcus.org/arcus/institutes.html), please include that
information as well. Affiliation with an ARCUS member institution is an
asset, but not required. Self-nominations are welcome.
Nomination submission deadline: Thursday, 14 March 2013.
