Organizers of Transatlantic Science Week 2015, announce availability of
late on-site registration. The conference will convene 27-28 October
2014 in Toronto, Canada.

The purpose of the annual Transatlantic Science Week is to promote
enhanced cooperation between Canadian, American, and Norwegian
stakeholders in research, innovation, and higher education.
Transatlantic Science Week is an arena where different stakeholders can
meet with the purpose of developing long-term collaborations or
partnerships. The conference also hopes to strengthen the linkages that
currently exist between the research and education domains and provide a
forum for dialogue between the research communities and policymakers.

The 2014 Transatlantic Science Week marks the 13th annual conference and
will focus on challenges and opportunities in the Arctic, with a special
look at Arctic societies, sustainability and safety.

Organizers announce a call for presentations to the Community Earth
System Model (CESM) Land Ice and Polar Climate Working Group Meetings.
The meetings will convene 2-4 February 2015 at the National Center for
Atmospheric Research Mesa Laboratory in Boulder, Colorado.

The Land Ice Working Group (LIWG) will meet 2-3 February 2015.
The Polar Climate Working Group (PCWG) will meet 3-4 February 2015.
The afternoon of 3 February will be a joint LIWG/PCWG session.

The community is invited to give short presentations about related work.
All topics are welcome. Agendas will be organized around topics
submitted.

Those interested in giving a presentation may send their title to Nicole

    CMOS-AMS Conference:
    Tropics to Poles - Advancing Science in High Latitudes
    31 May - 4 June 2015

Organizers of the combined 49th Congress of the Canadian Meteorological
and Oceanographic Society (CMOS) and 13th American Meteorological
Society Conference on Polar Meteorology and Oceanography (AMS) announce
calls for registration and session proposals to their joint conference
entitled "Tropics to Poles - Advancing Science in High Latitudes." The
conference will convene 31 May - 4 June 2015 in Whistler, British
Columbia, Canada.

Organizers invite CMOS and AMS members to propose and take the lead in
organizing special sessions or workshops that interest them. Topics
related to the atmosphere, climate, cryosphere, oceans, biogeochemistry,
and interdisciplinary studies are particularly welcome.

Session organizers are expected to recruit participants and to chair
their own sessions. Sessions will be organized into 90-minute blocks of
six 15-minute presentations. Multiple 90-minute sessions are welcome if
warranted by the number of abstracts submitted.

    Gender Equality in the Arctic

Organizers remind the community that general registration for the Gender
Equality in the Arctic conference is available online. The conference
will convene 30-31 October 2014 in Akureyri, Iceland.

This conference will focus broadly on the living condition of women and
men throughout the circumpolar north, addressing key issues such as
access to and control over resources, representation in decision-making
positions, political participation, regional development, human
security, and material and cultural well-being.

The conference will provide a forum for government representatives,
policy makers, academics and a wide range of other stakeholders from the
business community, resource managers and users, community leaders, and
representatives form non-governmental organizations to meet and lay a
foundation for a network of stakeholders promoting gender equality in
the Arctic.

Plenary session will include:

  • Gender Equality and the Arctic: Current Realities, Future Challenges;
  • Political Representation and Participation in Decision-making:
    Gendered Dimensions;
  • Regional Socio-Economic Development and its Gendered Impacts;
  • Climate and Environmental Change, Natural Resource Development, and
    Gender;
  • Human Security: Gendered Aspects;
  • Human Capital and Gender: Migration, Mobility, Education and
    Adaptation; and
  • (Re-) Construction of Gender in the Arctic.
