The Arctic Research Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS) seeks nominations for
the Organizing Committee of an Arctic Observing Open Science Meeting
that will convene the week of 16 November 2015 in Seattle, Washington or
Portland, Oregon.
The conference will bring together individuals and teams involved in the
collection, processing, analysis, and use of observations in the Arctic.
The goals of the meeting are to:
- Present and discuss scientific findings and advances resulting from
Arctic observing projects; - Review operational and technological achievements of observing
programs funded through local, state, and federal agencies and private
and non-profit organizations; - Explore how well new scientific achievements meet science and mission
objectives; and - Further define and strengthen collaborations.
Co-chairs of the meeting are Craig Lee (University of Washington),
Matthew Shupe (Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental
Sciences, University of Colorado and NOAA Earth Systems Research
Laboratory), and Cathy Wilson (Earth and Environmental Sciences
Division, Los Alamos National Laboratory). The National Science
Foundation Arctic Observing Network program is providing funding for
core meeting activities; co-sponsorship is sought for additional
activities, including web streaming, poster session, student/early
career researcher travel scholarships, and development of meeting
products.
The Organizing Committee will work with ARCUS to:
- Formulate the conference agenda and sessions,
- Help design requests of input to the broader research community,
- Select and invite speakers and attendees,
- Circulate information about the meeting,
- Manage content of any abstract submission process,
- Develop meeting materials,
- Facilitate discussions and sessions at the meeting, and
- Prepare the final meeting product(s).
The Organizing Committee will meet via conference call, web meetings,
and regular email communication, and will receive travel support to the
workshop, if needed. The Committee will represent a broad range of
disciplinary perspectives, including physical, natural, and social
sciences; networking science; information and data management; and
end-use of observing data.
To submit a nomination, please include the nominee's name, affiliation,
email, area of expertise, and a brief statement on why the person is
appropriate for the Organizing Committee. Self-nominations are welcome.
Submission deadline: Friday, 27 March 2015.
