The National Science Foundation (NSF) will be hosting a webcast Q&A
session explaining the solicitation "Decadal and Regional Climate
Prediction using Earth System Models (EaSM)." This solicitation was
released jointly by NSF, the Department of Energy (DOE), and the U.S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) on March 25th and seeks to involve
scientific communities that may not be accustomed to climate modeling
efforts in addition to climate modelers.
The Office of Polar Programs (OPP) is one of the NSF partners involved
in the EaSM effort. Submissions are encouraged which address each of
the polar regions as a system, while also supporting the development,
advancement, and coupling of component models which will contribute to
the growth of polar Earth System Modeling. Such component models may
include socio-economic, terrestrial and marine ecosystem,
atmospheric/snow/ice/ocean chemistry, sea ice, biogeochemistry, ocean
and atmosphere dynamics, geological, cloud and aerosol, permafrost, ice
sheet, and glacier models, just to name a few.
Any PIs who may have questions about this effort are encouraged to join
the webcast, where they will have the opportunity to ask questions of
program officers familiar with the solicitation. The first event will be
on Monday, 3 May at 1 p.m. EDT, and the second event will be on
Thursday, 6 May at 1 p.m. EDT.
You can register for the events from the solicitation website at:
