- Barrow Area Logistics Support Forum

The Arctic Research Support and Logistics program of the National
Science Foundation's Office of Polar Programs (NSF) will hold a Barrow
Area Logistics Support Forum on Tuesday, 15 December, from 3:00-4:00
p.m.
The purpose of this meeting is to provide an update on the present
logistics support structure in the Barrow area, and to provide the
research community an opportunity to discuss with NSF future science
support needs in Barrow.
Team members from CH2MHILL Polar Services (CPS) - NSF's contractor for
arctic logistics - will present information for logistics users in
Barrow. NSF representatives will be present in-person and via
teleconference.
The meeting will accessible in-person and via teleconference. Please

this forum. NSF/CPS would like to schedule additional user forum
meetings in the future, so please contact Kip to be placed on a contact

- Bringing Science to School: Helping Scientists Bring Their
Research into the K-12 Classroom
Thursday, 17 December, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
As more and more attention is being focused on K-12 STEM education,
there is a desire to connect the research community with the K-12
education community. President Obama recently announced his Educate to
Innovate program, which features National Lab Day as one of its
initiatives. National Lab Day seeks to connect classrooms with STEM
professionals.
Researchers who are used to dealing with undergraduate or graduate
students may feel a bit overwhelmed by the thought of a room full of ten
year-olds. This meeting will provide you with a guide to bringing your
research into a K-12 classroom. Hear from experienced educators who are
currently serving as Einstein Fellows at the National Science
Foundation.

- Unmanned Aircraft Use in the Arctic
Thursday, 17 December, 4:00-6:00 p.m.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) are continuing to offer significant
advances in our ability to monitor the harsh arctic environment. Betsy
Weatherhead, University of Colorado, and Susan Schoenung, NASA, are
hosting a roundtable discussion on the use of UAS in the Arctic on
Thursday, 17 December from 4:00-6:00 p.m.
The theme will be on single flights serving multiple science missions.
A few brief presentations will be followed by discussions with current
and future unmanned aircraft users. Newcomers to the field are welcome.
