An open meeting, "Roundtable Discussion of Unmanned Aircraft Systems for
Arctic Environmental Measurements," will be held on Wednesday, 17
December 2008, at 4:15pm, in San Francisco, California. The meeting will
be held in the community meeting room, hosted by the Arctic Research
Consortium of the U.S. (ARCUS), at the San Francisco Marriott, Pacific
Room A. The discussion coincides with the Fall Meeting of the American
Geophysical Union (AGU), being held 15-19 December 2008.
Unmanned aircraft are being used in all eight arctic countries, offering
unprecedented measurements of the arctic environment. Advances in
platforms and sensors are responding to scientific needs to obtain
critical measurements throughout the entire Arctic. This roundtable
discussion will include presentations on the more recent advances, as
well as evolving and future plans. Discussions this year will focus on
efforts to fly circum-arctically and on opportunities to coordinate
existing efforts.
