The Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences announces a postdoctoral
position to examine the impact of light levels, sea surface temperature,
upwelled nutrients, and winds on the production of dimethyl sulfide
(DMS) and its emission to the atmosphere. The ultimate goal is to
determine the significance of biotic feedbacks in controlling the
radiation budget of the Southeast Pacific Ocean. The position is funded
by the National Science Foundation and is part of the VOCALS REx
program.

Applicants should have a PhD in biological or chemical oceanography,
atmospheric chemistry, or a related field; a proven research and
publication record; and experience in experimental design, gas
chromatography, and data analysis. The successful candidate will have
the opportunity to participate in the Arctic Ocean (89N) ASCOS
expedition in August-September 2008. The successful candidate will lead
the field work in October-November 2008 and therefore must be willing to
work flexible hours at sea, as well as interact with both PIs, Patricia
Matrai and Barry Huebert (University of Hawaii). The appointment is a
fixed-term position (up to two years).
