The Alaska Ocean Observing System (AOOS) and University of Alaska's
North by 2020 are sponsoring the "Arctic Shelves Environmental Data
Exchange Roundtable" on Thursday, 11 October 2007, 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the
AOOS office, 1007 West 3rd Avenue, Anchorage, Alaska. The roundtable is
also available by teleconference. Participants may call 1-888-387-8686

International Oil and Ice Workshop

The International Polar Year (IPY) and development of the Alaska Ocean
Observing System and the Arctic Observing Network (AON) are resulting in
significant observation efforts that may be of interest to industry from
the perspective of environmental monitoring, improving design criteria
for specific locations, and oil-spill mitigation and response efforts.
At the same time, the industry is collecting environmental data that is
of significant value in helping to understand and adapt to changes in
the arctic marine environment.
The roundtable will assist scientific researchers, oil and gas industry
representatives, consultants, and agency representatives in planning for
effective exchange of currently acquired data on the sea ice
environment, ocean climate, and weather. This first informational
meeting will explore different options and approaches and initiate an
exchange between various groups collecting environmental data.
Participation from those interested in or collecting terrestrial
environmental data is strongly encouraged. For discussion, feedback, and
to streamline workshop goals, a white paper will be circulated prior to
the meeting.
