The WWF International Arctic Programme seeks an experienced climate
change scientist for its new Arctic Network Initiative: "Creating a New
Future for The Arctic."
Candidates should possess proven ability to provide leadership and
management and to shape the strategic direction of climate-related work
within the WWF Arctic Network Initiative. Candidates must also bring
solid experience in arctic global change science and have successfully
managed a complex project portfolio. The successful candidate will drive
the implementation of this work in close collaboration with the broader
WWF climate and arctic communities.
The main tasks of the position include:
- Planning and developing a detailed multi-year strategy to achieve the
goals of the WWF Arctic Network Initiative climate-related work;
- Leading the Initiative's climate resilience, vulnerability, and
impacts work;
- Project and financial management;
- Internal coordination and quality control;
- Partnership development and representation;
- Policy engagement; and
- Campaigning.
Qualifications include:
- Higher degree in arctic geography, climate science, or a related
field. Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of arctic climate issues and
resilience and vulnerability analysis frameworks.
- Minimum of five years' work experience in a relevant field, including
project management, research and networking. A track record of
delivering high quality results while juggling competing priorities
under intense time pressures. Ability, interest in and experience with
communicating specialist topics to both broad and specialist audiences.
- Excellent command of English (both written and oral). Russian or a
Scandinavian language is a plus.
- Good ability to think strategically.
- Proven networking and interpersonal skills, ability to mentor and
develop international, multi-disciplinary, and multi-cultural teams.
- Familiarity with and demonstrated interest in environmental and nature
conservation issues.
- Willingness to travel, potentially to remote areas in the high North.
