Papers are invited for Session IN17: "Data Sources and Management for
the 2007-2009 International Polar Year" being convened at the American
Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting on 10-14 December 2007 in San
Francisco, California.

Session description:
The current International Polar Year 2007-2009 (IPY), co-sponsored by
the International Council of Science and the World Meteorological
Organization, is producing an unprecedented and very diverse collection
of physical, life, and social science data from the polar regions. These
data when combined with the IPY objectives of interdisciplinary science
and international exchange present a huge data management challenge and
opportunity to greatly enhance international data management
collaboration.

This session is a joint endeavor of the IPY Programme Office, the
Subcommittee on Data Policy and Management, and the IPY Data and
Information Service (DIS). The IPYDIS is a loose international
federation of data repositories, observatories, networks, and data
management experts. Session conveners solicit contributions from all
involved in the data collection and management for the International
Polar Year, with a focus on: (i) data acquisition, cataloging, and
sharing; (ii) interdisciplinary data discovery; (iii) distributed data
access and integration in a global IPY data infrastructure; and (iv)
examples of interdisciplinary data applications.
