Under the aegis of UNESCO, the international scientific conference "On
the Role and Place of Universities In Sustainable Development of the
Arctic and the North" will be held on 20-22 November 2007 in Dubna,
Russian Federation.
The conference is held within the framework of the UNESCO-Republic of
Sakha joint communique on "Sustainable Development of Arctic Countries
and Northern Territories of the Russian Federation in the Context of
Education, Science and Culture," and its purpose is to find ways for
sustainable development of arctic regions under the conditions of
globalization, consolidate intellectual potential, and summarize
positive experience of universities and the entire educational community
of countries of the Arctic and the North. Participants at the conference
will include representatives from governmental and nongovernmental
organizations, universities in arctic countries, research institutes,
high educational institutions, and other organizations engaged in
research activity in problems of the Arctic.
The conference is organized by UNESCO; Conference of Parlamentaries from
the Arctic Region; Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia);
Government of Moscow Region; UNESCO Moscow Office; Commission of the
Russian Federation for UNESCO; M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University;
International University of Nature, Society and Man "Dubna"; and
International Intergovernmental Organization Joint Institute for Nuclear
Research.
