The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council (EVOSTC) is seeking a Science
Director. This position is based in Anchorage, Alaska. Some travel is
required. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and is
responsible for the scientific research program funded by the EVOSTC.
EVOSTC is seeking an experienced scientist with proven leadership,
organizational, management and team-building skills. This position will
manage the science program, assist in program development/institutional
planning, support the overall operations of the EVOSTC office and
provide in-house technical expertise to the Executive Director and other
EVOSTC staff regarding scientific issues. Primary responsibilities focus
both on short term science guiding restoration goals and activities and
the implementation of the long-term science-based restoration program at
EVOSTC as guided by the Executive Director and the Trustee Council. The
Science Director serves as the key liaison between the Trustee Council
office and the scientific community. More information about EVOSTC,

A Ph.D. is preferred in biophysical or socioeconomic sciences
appropriate to the field of natural resource damage assessment and
restoration (e.g., fisheries science, environmental science, biology,
sociology, economics, oceanography). Though a Ph.D. scientist is sought,
individuals who can demonstrate extensive scientific background and
strong practical experience in science-related fields will be considered
in lieu of the Ph.D. requirement. In addition, applicants should be
generally familiar with the functions and mandates of the State of
Alaska and federal agencies associated with the Trustee Council and
other related government, non-government and private organizations that
conduct management of natural resources or marine research in the Gulf
of Alaska. The applicant should provide evidence of completed research,
demonstrated supervisory and managerial experience and administrative
skills. Experience in planning and development of research programs and
relevant public policy is necessary.
This position is employed through the State of Alaska. Full-time
