The Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) invites applications for
a 2.5-year postdoctoral position in Quaternary geology. The position is
affiliated with the geology research group of the UMB Department of
Plant and Environmental Sciences and is funded by the National Research
Council of Norway as a part of the International Polar Year 2007-2008.
The main objective of the research project is to advance fundamental
knowledge of long-term natural climate change in the Arctic by studying
land stratigraphic records from the last interglacial/glacial cycle. The
project will be carried out in close cooperation with scientists from
universities in Tromso and Bergen, as well as the Norwegian Polar
Institute and the Geological Survey of Norway.
The successful applicant will participate in 2007-2008 field expeditions
to Svalbard to conduct studies of sedimentary successions in order to
reconstruct past climate and ice sheet history. The position requires a
PhD in relevant Quaternary sciences and documented field experience,
preferably from arctic regions. The ability to work diligently and
independently is expected. The position also includes supervision of
Masters and PhD students connected with the project.
