The Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council (EVOSTC), located in
Anchorage, Alaska, oversees the use of the settlement fund that resulted
from the 1989 Exxon Valdez oil spill. EVOSTC seeks a Science Director
who will manage the restoration-related scientific research program that
the EVOSTC funds each year. Some travel is required.
Duties and Qualifications
- Ph.D. (preferred) in natural resource damage assessment and
restoration (e.g., fisheries science, environmental science, biology,
sociology, economics, oceanography) OR Master's degree with extensive
scientific background and strong practical experience in science-related
fields.
- Serve as the bridge between the Council and the scientific community
by working with various committees, the Trustees, agency liaisons,
EVOSTC staff, principal investigators and representatives from a wide
variety of scientific entities.
- Communicate effectively with subordinates, supervisors, and the
public, particularly in dealing with controversial public issues.
