The University of Washington is inviting applications for the full-time
position of Director of the Washington Sea Grant Program (WSGP). WSGP is
part of the National Sea Grant Program, whose primary federal funding
comes from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Additional funding comes from a variety of university, state, federal
and other sources. The current budget from all grant and matching
sources is approximately $5 million annually. WSGP manages
marine-related research, education and outreach activities, drawing on
the strengths of the marine programs of the University of Washington and
other institutions and groups in the state of Washington. The program
works with a wide range of external partners - national, regional, state
and local.

The Director reports to the Dean of the College of Ocean and Fishery
Sciences, and has university-wide and statewide responsibilities. The
Director has overall responsibility for leadership and management of
WSGP. Specific duties include: strategic planning, project solicitation,
review and coordination of the program's research and education
activities, and direct oversight of the program's extension and
communications efforts. The Director is expected to lead an innovative
program that has exceptional scientific and educational quality, as well
as societal impact. The position requires extensive interaction with
varied clientele and potential funding sources, and the ability to raise
external funds.

Qualifications include:
- commitment to the Sea Grant concept;
- broad knowledge of marine science and resource issues;
- proven record of innovative leadership and sound management;
- ability to work in a university setting;
- experience working with a wide range of external constituencies;
- experience with grant proposals and the federal funding process; and
- strong communications skills, both written and verbal.

The candidate must have a doctoral or terminal professional degree in a
Sea Grant-relevant discipline or the equivalent in knowledge and
experience. The position is a Professional Staff position, Grade 14. An
affiliate faculty position may be available depending on qualifications.
Salary and benefits are competitive and commensurate with experience and
qualifications.
