As part of a major programme of expansion, the Department of Geography
intends to make nine new permanent academic appointments over the next
three years (three Chairs and six Lectureships) to further enhance its
current profile of research excellence. In the first phase of this
programme, the Department has appointed Professor Tavi Murray to a Chair
of Glaciology, and now wishes to create a glaciological research group
around her through the appointment of a Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in
Glaciology.
Applications for these posts are sought from creative scientists with
strong quantitative skills. The department is particularly interested in
individuals with research interests in numerical modelling of glaciers
and ice sheets; other areas of interest include the use of geophysical
techniques in glaciology, interpretation of the palaeo-glacial record,
and remote sensing of ice masses. The successful applicants will have
developed an excellent international reputation for research or have the
clear potential to do so and the ability to contribute to the
undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programme.
