The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University invites applications for a postdoctoral research scientist in atmospheric sciences. This full-time, one-year position, with continuation pending funding and progress, will be located in Palisades, New York.
The successful candidate will work on a project that aims to understand the transport processes from lower latitudes to the Arctic region and the underlying dynamical mechanisms. The work will involve the use of a combination of observations and comprehensive and idealized climate model experiments to examine the performance of the state-of-the-art global climate models in the representation of long-range transport processes into the Arctic and the associated timescales with links to a broad range of chemical species, such as black carbon. With the use of both comprehensive and idealized models, the work will also investigate the linkage between dynamics and transport, and help pinpoint potential model deficiencies in simulating the transport processes.
A PhD in atmospheric sciences or a related field is required. Research experience in atmospheric dynamics and/or atmospheric chemistry, and familiarity with running climate models is preferred.
