The Water and Environmental Research Center (WERC) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher for a project studying mercury dynamics from the Holocene to the Anthropocene. This one-year position will be located in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The project includes archaeology, iso- and bio-geochemistry, fisheries, marine science, marine mammal science, and toxicology. The postdoctoral position will focus on analyses and publications of stable isotopes, both bulk and compound-specific. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with an interdisciplinary team, a background in isotope ecology (including the use of compound specific amino acid analyses), preferably with knowledge of historical ecology, paleoecology, and/or archaeology. Individuals with a strong background in one discipline with a desire to become more interdisciplinary are welcome to apply. Applicants should have excellent interpersonal communication skills and be intrinsically motivated, dynamic, and able to function in a highly collaborative research environment where interdisciplinary research development and dissemination of new information to community and science audiences are key goals. Leadership in stable isotope analyses and subsequent first-author manuscripts and laboratory skills are expected and required.
Those interested in applying to be a part of the research project, should contact Nicole Misarti at nmisarti [at] alaska.edu as soon as possible.
Application review will begin 10 October 2022 with an anticipated start date of January 2023 or to be negotiated
