The Centre for Earth Observation Science (CEOS) and Department of Environment of Geography of the University of Manitoba invite applications for a full-time, probationary (tenure-track) or tenured position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank in the broadly-defined area of Arctic System Science. This position, starting 1 January 2024, will be located in Winnipeg, Canada.
The successful candidate will be a core contributor to the Arctic System Science research and teaching in the faculty. The expectation is for the candidate to develop a nationally competitive and externally-funded research program in the subdiscipline of the candidate's specialization. Teaching within the candidate's specialization will extend to both undergraduate and graduate levels while research supervision may also extend to include technicians, postdoctoral fellows, and research associates. Service will also be required both within the University and through various professional and public organizations linked to the candidate's area of expertise. Outreach is a critical component of public engagement and knowledge mobilization.
The successful candidate must have a PhD degree, or equivalent expertise or qualifications, and/or proven success in leading independently organized and externally funded programs in the broad area of Arctic System Science, especially in the fields of physical oceanography, sea ice science, glaciology, remote sensing, and climate sciences. Outstanding applicants with a proven record of publications and/or other forms of knowledge creation, dissemination, and impacts are encouraged to apply. Demonstrated excellence in teaching (undergraduate and graduate), experience in collaborative interdisciplinary research, and mentoring students and research associates will be considered an asset.
To be considered at the Full Professor rank, the successful candidate must have an exceptional and internationally recognized record in research (including research funding), teaching, student mentoring, and leadership.

- A cover letter outlining the candidate's qualifications and how they fulfill the above-listed criteria;
- A curriculum vitae (including an ORCID link if available);
- A research statement (up to two pages) outlining the candidate's innovative and original research program (past/present/future) including its potential to attract funding, contribute to student training (including details on the number of students and duration for their degree completion), and other broader societal impacts;
- A teaching statement (up to two pages) outlining the candidate's teaching philosophy and experience in and approach to training and mentoring diverse students;
- A statement (up to two pages) outlining the candidate's service (including collegial governance and community engagement) and leadership;
- A statement on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) (up to two pages) outlining how they will contribute to the University of Manitoba and Unit commitment to EDI; and,
- The names and contact information of three referees.
The preference will be given to candidates at the Full Professor rank with an exceptional record in research, teaching, and leadership. Outstanding candidates at other ranks (Assistant or Associate Professor) will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
