The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) invites applications for an Arctic Fishery Officer. This position will be located in Anchorage, Alaska.
In coordination with the Managing Director, the Arctic Fishery Officer:
- Develops and implements the WWF-US Arctic Program fishery engagement strategy for Central Arctic and North Pacific fisheries;
- Works with the Global Arctic Programme and represents WWF-US at local, regional, national, and international fisheries forums and processes relevant to the Arctic;
- Engages and partners with U.S. Oceans Team fishery projects;
- Work closely with the Managing Director to ensure conservation programs operate efficiently and effectively, including developing fundraising strategies and proposals;
- Works closely with the Managing Director to establish annual program goals and with individual team members to establish and track performance; and
- Manages and supervises programmatic staff.
Qualifications include:
- 6+ years of fishery management or other resource management experience or 3+ years of experience with an advanced fisheries policy, marine biology, or similar field degree;
- Experience working with Indigenous or minority communities is desired;
- Ability to think strategically and synthesize and incorporate input from a variety of stakeholders, collaborators, and other staff;
- Proactive, self-motivated individual who works well within and team and has demonstrated the ability to work autonomously;
- Excellent communication skills with multiple audiences;
- Demonstrated effective public speaking and the ability to communicate complex issues verbally and in written form;
- Ability to set priorities, manage multiple details simultaneously, and facilitate the work of others;
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25% as necessary;
