SESSION C037: Remote-Sensing Tool Applications for Critical Infrastructure Decision-Making in Coastal Communities Managing Climate Change Impacts
Conveners: Jessica Garron and Nathan J. Lamie
Climate change impacts on coastal communities are variable and amount to one principal result, more water. Flooding and erosion resulting from increases in liquid water have direct impacts on the critical infrastructure supporting millions of Americans, the impacts of which are most acute in the small communities across Western Alaska. In these remote communities accessible only by small airplanes and boats opportunities to systematically observe and identify the variable impacts of climate change on critical infrastructure are extremely limited. Increasing the value of remote sensing tools to provide the observational component to decision-making requirements will positively impact the capability for remote locations to respond to climate change This session invites presentations from teams using remote-sensing tools, inclusive of unique mitigation strategies, to monitor critical infrastructure in coastal communities where identifying and responding to direct impacts of climate change is critical.
