The Arctic Centre at the University of Lapland invites applications for a research professor in Arctic geopolitics and security. This permanent position will be located in Rovaniemi, Finland.
The successful candidate will investigate the connections between climate and environmental change, comprehensive security, and Arctic geopolitics particularly from the viewpoint of the research tradition of international relations. In addition to analyzing complex political relations and geostrategic Arctic interests, the candidate will develop new critical contributions to the evolving, multidisciplinary field of security research.
In addition to conducting research, the successful candidate will take part in the implementation and development of the Arctic Centre’s multidisciplinary research strategy. This position will assemble a field-related multidisciplinary research group and network with researchers of the faculties of the University of Lapland, other universities, and other research organizations. Further, the successful candidate shall seek external funding, publish research results in prominent international scientific journals, and engage in societal interaction and international collaboration in the relevant field of expertise.
The Research Professor supervises doctoral students and provides instruction related to the field.
