The American Geophysical Union (AGU) is accepting abstracts for the 2024 AGU Fall Meeting. This hybrid meeting will take place 9-13 December 2024 in Washington, D.C. and online.
The following sessions are accepting abstracts:
SESSION ED003: Arctic Education & Outreach - Effective ways of engaging diverse learners in Arctic science
Conveners: Anne U. Gold, Elena B. Sparrow, Malinda J. Chase, and Katie Spellman
The changing polar environments have created important scientific and societal concerns in high and lower latitudes. In this session, participants will share effective approaches, frameworks, and examples of how to promote a broad understanding and awareness of the changing Arctic and the related societal implications. The session will highlight effective strategies to inspire learners in both formal and informal learning contexts as well as communities. Conveners also invite papers on effective ways of community engagement, co-design of educational and outreach activities, and fostering intergenerational or cross-cultural learning through Arctic Indigenous knowledge, science, and observation.

SESSION C033: Remote Sensing of the Cryosphere: Sea Ice
Conveners: Walt Meier, Sahra Kacimi, and Randy Scharien
Sea ice is at the interface of the polar oceans and atmosphere and plays a crucial role in the Earth's climate system. Changes in the Arctic and Antarctic sea ice covers occur at a wide range of temporal and spatial scales. Remote sensing techniques can provide data at all these scales and the range of different techniques available has made remote sensing a fundamental tool for studies of sea ice and its geophysical properties. This session aims to highlight recent progress made in the remote sensing of the sea ice system, including descriptions of sea ice properties such as thickness, motion, floe size, melt ponds, snow on sea ice, etc. Potential topics include novel techniques, applications for model evaluations, validation with in situ data, process studies, and interdisciplinary investigations. Conveners encourage submissions on recent remote sensing opportunities (CRYO2ICE, MOSAiC, commercial sensors) and preparation for upcoming missions (NISAR, CRISTAL, AMR3, CIMR).
