The Paleoclimate Dynamics Lab in the Department of Geology at the University at Buffalo (UB) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate and a graduate student (at MS or PhD level). These positions will be located in Buffalo, New York.
The successful candidates will join an National Science Foundation-funded interdisciplinary project to explore rapid climate and ecosystem change in Southeast Alaska, by combining paleoclimate proxies and models. Both will be based in the Geology Department at the University at Buffalo and will collaborate closely with grant partners, including multiple graduate students, another postdoctoral researcher, and three professors (Charlotte Lindqvist, Corey Krabbenhoft, and Jason Briner).
The Paleoclimate Dynamics Lab’s role in this project is to develop age-depth models for lake sediment cores collected in Southeast Alaska, and to generate and interpret, using traditional frameworks and proxy system models, lipid biomarker and compound-specific stable isotope records from lakes in Alaska. Along with the rest of the project team, the postdoc and student will improve understanding of the mechanisms behind Arctic climate, ice sheet, and ecosystem responses to rapid warming. The postdoc will take part in coordination and mentoring of students, research, and outreach activities, and in course planning. All participants will be involved with field work and outreach in Southeast Alaska and cross-disciplinary project activities through project team meetings, journal seminars, and workshops.
